Social Story: Touching Other People
SOCIAL STORY
Introduction
I have created a social story for an assignment from my Sign Language Class in semester 3 of my program at Humber College. A social story helps explain social situations, and how to behave in it.
Summary of Project:
The social story is to assist children who invade personal space and touch individuals without asking. I have used simple and easy words to explain the social situation, and have used first person language to showcase the child's perspective making it easier to grasp.
Core Competencies Demonstrated
The core competencies I have showcased in this project is Interpersonal Relationships, Showing Respect to Individuals, and Creative Problem Solving.
Social Story: Touching Other People
I have fun playing and learning with my friends and classmates at school
Sometimes I like to touch or hug my friends and classmates when playing or learning
My friends and classmates might not like have their body touched
Before I touch or hug somebody, I will try to ask if I can touch them
When I want to hug my friend or classmate I can say "Can I hug you?"
If they say yes, I can hug them
If they say no, I can smile at them or wave
Some people like being touched, others do not but we can all still play together and learn together
