Introduction

INTRODUCTION

Hi, my name is Simran Sehmbi, and I am a student at Humber College in the Developmental Services Worker Program, learning how to positively promote the physical, mental and emotional health of individuals with intellectual and  developmental disabilities.

The reason behind my interest in this program comes from a long history of love I hold in helping the developmental and intellectual disabilities community. As a DSW, I strive in creating an inclusive community for them that is welcoming and accepting, while assisting  in having full access to their rights of citizenship alongside equal opportunities.

SOCIAL GROUPS   Introduction I did some research to find social groups and community activities for a individual in my residential placement to be more involved within his community. Summary of Project I found a variety of social groups, that are in-person and virtual for the resident to attend weekly. The in-person clubs have recreational, wellness and community engagement with free treatments such as foot care and blood pressure testing. To showcase my research, I created a chart with details of the pricing, contact information and information on the activities that occur.  Core Competencies Demonstrated  This task allowed me to showcase Strategic Planning and Showing Respect to People Supported .
